Five questions with

Jill Doherty

What do you think is the biggest issue facing Southold Town?

There is no one answer because one issue is connected to the others. I would say housing. We need housing for the year round working class. More people are moving out here looking to stay year round. So it's also traffic and jobs.

Tell us why you got into government?

I got into government in 1987 when I was hired as a clerk. It was a natural progression to become elected to the trustees after being clerk to the board of trustees 12 years. I realized I can do more as a town board member to help people with any town issues they might have.

What are you most proud of as an elected official?

Always being there for my constituents to help walk them through or helping them with any issues they might have. Getting them an answer even if it's not exactly the outcome the were hoping for.

What is one thing you want to focus on in your next term?

I will continue to focus on reconfiguring the code to coincide with the changing times while preserving our way of life we love here

Tell us something about you we would be surprised to learn.
